How to Align Columns in Markdown Tables
Column alignment in Markdown is controlled strictly by where you place colons (:) in the delimiter row directly beneath the header.
| Alignment | Delimiter Syntax | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Left Align | :--- | Colon on the left side of hyphens. Text aligns to the left margin. |
| Center Align | :---: | Colons on both ends. Text centers horizontally in each cell. |
| Right Align | ---: | Colon on the right side. Best for numeric data and currency. |
Complete Working Example
| Left Aligned | Centered Data | Right (Currency) | | :----------- | :-----------: | ---------------: | | Laptop | In Stock | $1,299.00 | | Mouse | Low Supply | $29.99 |
